The thing to do is to drive to Longueau, a town on the outskirts of the city of Amiens, and to catch the train into Paris. Longueau is very easy to get to (about 40 minutes from Basse Copette), and parking at the station is free of charge. There are numerous trains into Paris from Longueau, and at least one every hour that takes just under an hour. For these journeys, Longueau is in fact the last stop before Paris. And there is a similarly frequent return service to Longueau from Paris.
Your journey into Paris ends at Gare du Nord, and from here Paris is your oyster. There is so much to do and see in Paris, for all ages and interests it is simply impossible to cover all the options here. Not surprisngly, popular choices include a trip up the Eiffel Tower, a trip along the Seine River in a boat, the various musuems and art galleries, shopping and lunch on the Champs Elysees, the Notre Dame cathedral. ‘The list is endless’ could never be more appropriately said. At the end of the day, have a meal somewhere nice in Paris (there are trains as late as 11 pm); or get on an early evening train and get back to Amiens, have a meal there near the Cathedral and then watch the light show in front of the Cathedral (mid June to mid September).
A trip to Paris is certainly well worth it, whether you have never been before or even if you want to go again. For children it is full of adventure – a train trip and then the Eiffel Tower (apparently most are understandably asleep during the journey back to Amiens), and most speak very excitedly of their day.
