Normandy and Impressionism go hand-in-hand. Not only did a number of leading impressionist painters live in Normandy, but these painters also frequently painted the Normandy countryside. And so many of us know Normandy through some of those well known impressionist paintings. The city of Rouen is currently organising “Normandie Impressionniste” for summer 2010. This will be a series of events aimed at promoting Normandy and its Impressionist heritage.

'Normandie Impressionniste' - reserve your stay at Basse Copette, a luxury B&B in Normandy
Details are yet to be released, but a number of towns and cities will be hosting a series of events, that has been described as the “Armada de l’Impressionnisme“, from June to September in 2010. The fine art museum in Rouen is at the centre of this celebration, but the City of Le Havre, for example, is organising a guided tour of the city and its impressionist connections. The tour, Sur les pas des impressionnistes au Havre, will be 6 kilometres, and will take about an hour and a half.
Both Upper and Lower Normandy are partners in organising this prestigious event, as are many of the towns and cities of Normandy with impressionist connections.
If you are a fan of Impressionist art, Basse Copette is an ideal place for you to stay. Basse Copette is within easy reach of Monet’s garden at Giverny, Paris and its great Museum collections of Impressionist art is a great day out from Basse Copette, then there is the Upper Normandy coastline – a frequent subject for the impressionists, and of course Rouen and the many other towns and cities involved in “Normandie Impressionniste” are nearby.
Basse Copette offers luxury B&B accommodation in a Normandy style farmhouse, but also self catering accommodation in a luxury Normandy gite. Secure your reservation early and avoid disappointment.
As more details of this event are released, I shall post them here.
