7 January – 31 March 2012
Enjoy a break in the stark but striking winter landscape of north Normandy. Both the farmhouse and the barn allow for a cosy and comfortable stay, whatever the weather outside. Winter does not have to be a cold bore, so come on in and snuggle up!
Arrive at Basse Copette mid afternoon to freshly made leek and potato soup with mustard toasts. For one of your evenings enjoy a gourmet meal, sampling the culinary delights of Normandy — with a variety of choices to suit every taste. The meal begins at the fireside with a local cocktail, Kia Normande and stuffed mushrooms. A typical menu is as follows:
cream of celery soup
pork braised in cider & sage with apples
local Normandy cheese with red onion confit
Round off your meal with tea or coffee and petit fours back at the fireside.
Have an early start and a continental breakfast, and then head out for the day. There is so much in the area to choose from it is impossible to list all the options – your host will be happy to advise – but there is Monet’s house and gardens, and a great collection of impressionist paintings in the Rouen art gallery. And of course there are the ubiquitous cathedrals, chateaux, shops and fine restaurants! Or you can lay in bed for an extra hour or two and start the day later with brunch: grapefruit and bucks fizz, fresh croissants and homemade jams, eggs Benedict or salmon fumée & scrambled eggs, tea, coffee or hot chocolate.
